How to Choose a Poker Table for Your Home

A poker table turns any room into the place where everyone wants to be on a Friday night. But the right table depends on how many people you play with, how much space you have, and whether the table needs to do double duty as a dining table. This guide walks you through the five decisions that matter most.

1. How many players do you need to seat?

Start with your usual game night, not the biggest party you might throw once a year.

  • 48-inch round table: best for 4 to 6 players. A good fit for smaller rooms and casual games.
  • 60-inch round table: comfortable for up to 6 players with more elbow room and space for chips and drinks.
  • Oval Texas Hold'em table (about 80 to 84 inches): seats up to 8 players, plus room for a dealer. This is the classic casino shape for serious card nights.

2. How much room do you need?

A simple rule: plan for about 3 feet (36 inches) of open space on every side of the table. That gives players room to pull their chairs back, stand up and walk behind each other.

  • A 48-inch round table needs a space of about 10 x 10 feet.
  • A 60-inch round table needs about 11 x 11 feet.
  • For an oval table, take its length and width from the product page and add 6 feet to each.

If your room is a little tight, a round table is easier to fit than an oval one, and armless chairs take up less space.

3. Do you want a 2-in-1 poker and dining table?

If the table will live in a dining room, kitchen or open living space, a 2-in-1 table is often the smartest choice. A solid wood dining top covers the playing surface, so it works as a regular table every day and turns into a poker table in seconds. Many 2-in-1 tables also hide storage for cards and chips under the top.

If you have a dedicated game room or basement, a poker-only table gives you the full casino feel all the time.

4. Which playing surface is right for you?

  • Padded vinyl or faux leather: easy to wipe clean and very durable. A great choice for families and for tables that also see food and drinks.
  • Felt or cloth: the traditional casino feel. Cards slide smoothly, but cloth needs a little more care with spills.

Look for a padded armrest rail for comfort during long games, and built-in cup holders to keep drinks off the playing surface.

5. Chairs, delivery and assembly

  • Chairs: some tables are sold as a set with matching chairs, others are table only. Check the product page so you know what's included.
  • Delivery: poker tables are heavy and usually ship by freight truck with curbside delivery. Plan to have two adults ready to carry the boxes inside.
  • Assembly: most tables need some assembly, usually attaching the base or legs. Measure your doorways and stairs before you order.

Quick checklist before you buy

  1. Count your usual number of players.
  2. Measure your room and leave about 3 feet around the table.
  3. Decide if you need a dining top or a poker-only table.
  4. Pick a surface that fits how you'll use it.
  5. Check what's included (chairs, dining top) and the delivery details.
